Here is Doris’ story as it pertains to the art of life coaching.

Experiencing personal self-discovery and growth has been rich and plentiful. I became keenly aware that it was in fact a “journey” when I was a young mom with three small children. I could no longer be identified through my career and I felt very ill-equipped for that particular stage in my life. During that time I embarked on a road of learning everything I could that would help me to understand myself and to develop life skills.

I had the privilege of parenting our three daughters through the challenges of the formative years, and then during university and on to careers and marriage.

Each girl charted her own course of self-discovery but I had a front row seat and became their unofficial life coach. The reward has been to see how they have grown through their own challenges and mistakes into amazing young women who have made good choices in careers and life partners.

When the children were in school, I returned to a professional career. Fifteen years as a leader in ‘volunteer management’ has been very rewarding. This career path enabled me to journey with countless individuals in the discovery of their particular aptitudes and abilities as well as helping them to set a direction that was consistent with their uniqueness. It was “life coaching” all the way.

Honestly, there have been times when my life felt out of control. There have also been times when I felt that I did not have a voice, and that I was helpless to change the situation. Through all of the challenges that I encountered personally and professionally, I chose to learn and grow through them. One thing I learned was that a series of small decisions followed by consistent actions can result in a big difference down the road. Learning is something that I cherish and therefore, I continue to have professional (and casual) coaches in my own life. I cannot think of any adventure more exciting and rewarding than one that involves self-discovery and personal growth. I would love to join you on your journey.
